The Second Amendment and our right to bear arms
I fully support the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. The Founding Fathers placed prime importance on the people’s right to arms. I believe that the Constitution means what it says with regards to that right.
Unfortunately, many opponents of the Second Amendment exploit tragedies to advance gun control legislation, asserting that new gun laws will serve as an effective crime-control measure and prevent future tragedies. This premise of the opponents is not born out by experience or fact.
It is no coincidence that many of the cities in the United States with the strictest gun-control laws also have the highest violent crime rates. We must be clear – disarming law-abiding citizens does not prevent criminal activity. Instead it hinders a law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense, and further arms criminals.
